Mekong Sunset

sunset on the mekong river

On a trip to the magical country of Laos I spent some time in Luang Prabang. My Lao guide arranged for me to go through a wat to their stairs that go down to the Mekong River. While the sun was higher I went down the stairs, but already new that my vantage point for sunset had to be on this high landing.

With my camera on a tripod, waiting for sunset, I caught a glimpse of the boat down river. Then the beam accross the river. Then the big question. Could the boat get to the beam before the sun fell behind the mountain? Well clearly it did, but not befor a little anxiety.

I-4 In Downtown Orlando

My friend Ron Caimano knew the GM of a hotel in downtown Orlando and got him to make their rooftop available for a photo shoot. The plan was to photograph the sunset to the west, but while we were waiting I put a 12mm lens on a Nikon D7000 and captured a frame of the northeast. Then panned to the southeast for another frame. In post I decided to see what would happen if I stitched them to get this 180 degree view. A little adjustment of lens distortion, contrast, and saturation and I had an image I really enjoy.
